Intentions 2014

I find every January 1st to be a bit cringe-worthy. The expectations are so high to make the upcoming year “the best yet!” or “better than ever!” or at the very least “better than last year”.
I never resolve to do anything. I just intend to do things. That way if I don’t end up doing them, then I don’t feel like I’ve failed to complete a task.

While there were a few events last year that jarred us, we arrived at 2014 happy, healthy and together. Can’t ask for more than that.

Would I like to get in shape? Hell yes.
This is the year I turn forty. I’ve been warned that everything changes the minute you hit 40.
I expect by this time next year I’ll require eye glasses of some sort and that my nipples will be markedly closer to my belly button.
I have quietly challenged myself to be #fitby40. I’m not sure when or where the motivation is going to come from, because I don’t have it yet. But it sounds like a really good intention – to be fit by 40. We’ll see how that goes.
If I look the exact same as I do now on July 22, I promise that I will stop referring to my mid-section as baby weight.
The “baby” turns 7 in 10 days.

I’d like to read a book this year. That’s right. Just one. Keeping my expectations low reasonable. I read one book last year – The Birth House. It was a great read and I wondered why I don’t read more. But then I didn’t read another book.
I’ll take suggestions, please!

I am just going to ahead and admit it. I own a Canon T2i DSLR that I love and I have been using the auto settings for as long as I’ve had it. I want to learn to to actually USE it. Manual settings and all.

Those are the specific intentions.

The rest?
Be kind.
Be compassionate.
Be more confident.
Be less judgmental.
Curse less.
Eat less chocolate.
Drink more water.
Go to bed earlier.

That’s it.
Anything specific on your list?

Home Sweet Home

From here on out, all of my posts will be right here.
This is now home base – blogging wise.
Just as our family has moved homes several times, so has my blog. I started off many years ago, in 2005 over at blogspot. My blogging journey then took me to UrbanMoms, where I had the pleasure of sharing my life for almost 4 years.
I’ve posted my very last entry on UrbanMoms and the next leg will happen right here.

If you are so inclined, stick around and keep reading.

FotoFriday – Ready

I told her that whenever she was ready I would take her.
This past Tuesday she was ready.

"Mom. I Did it! I can't believe I did it!"

Soundly sleeping after an anxious evening.

Back to Reality

Summer was bliss.

Now we’re back to life. Back to busy.
Back to school – grade 7, grade 5 and grade 1.
Back to work.
Hockey. Dance. Gymnastics.

I’m excited for the things to come.
Sweater weather. A couple of birthdays.

And only 14 Saturdays until Christmas!

How did we get to March?

It’s March 5, 2013.
I don’t know where the beginning of the year went.
Actually I do. Time has been in short supply.
The beginning of the year found me working for the first time in 12 years.
The week after I started my new job found me loaded with a head cold that last for over 6 weeks that ended with a sinus infection.
A week ago found me the proud owner of a dog (HUH??).
The worst stomach bug I’ve ever had found me last Friday.

Life has been stressful to say the least. The optimism that I felt in January is waning.
It’s not all bad.  I have some exciting news that I will be posting on UrbanMoms very soon! And no – I am not pregnant.

Stay tuned.

(But god knows how long before I’m back on here…)

This is it.
We’ve been in 2013 for just about a month now and I’m digging it.
Good things are happening for us. I think this will be our turning point year.

Back at it

June was my last post here?
Holy hell…okay. Starting my New Years Intentions early this year.
Writing over here more is top on the list.
Also – to eat better blah blah blah. Get back on my fitness train.

I got a job and I start January 7 (eek!).
It’s at a Montessori school therefore the jeans and yoga pants I’ve been living in are not going to be a part of my daily life as they have been for the past 12 years.
I do not want to go shopping for new clothes until I lose the bloat that the holidays brought with it.
Starting NOW.
Dinner tonight – roasted veggies.

I just need to make more choices like this one.
